Nightwish – знаменитая музыкальная группа родом из Финляндии. Их стиль в общем можно охарактеризовать как оперный металл. В своём репертуаре команда имеет множество песен на различных языках, включая немецкий, французский, но большинство составляют английские тексты. Свою историю группа начала в далёком 1996 году в небольшом финском городке Китеэ. Дебютные композиции группы выделял необыкновенный классический оперный вокал теперь уже бывшей солистки – Тарьи Турунен (Taria Turunen). Она придала группе неповторимый стиль, а power metal. сочетающий в себе тяжёлые гитарные рифы и симфоническую аранжировку это просто что-то необыкновенное! Теперь уже точно ясно, что именно Nightwish были основоположниками нового стиля музыки – Symphonic Metal. Теперь у группы новая солистка – Анетт Ользон (Anette Olzon). Со своей вокальной партией она справляется отлично, но вот звучание группы в целом стало другим: не сказать чтобы хуже или лучше, просто не таким оригинальным.

Nightwish у себя в Финляндии достаточно быстро стали знамениты, но мировая известность пришла не сразу, а лишь после выходов альбомов «Oceanborn» в 1998 году и «Wishmaster» в 2000 году и клипов, раскрученных на MTV, BritchTV и прочих популярных музыкальных телеканалах.

В 2005 году Nightwish распрощались с Taria Turunen, и лишь через два года подыскали ей более-менее достойную замену – оперную вокалистку Анетт Ользон, – с которой в том же году и записали альбом «Dark Passion Play»
